    Therapy Across the Life Span

    Children

I often practice using a combination of expressive therapies (play therapy, art activities, journaling), cognitive-behavioral strategies, and mindfulness practice to foster emotional regulation, improved behavior, and family functioning. I also provide a solution focused-supportive practice (Coaching) around specific issues such as ADHD, school stress, developing discipline strategies, and coping with fears/phobias or trauma.

    Adolescents

Teens are often struggling with issues of independence, identity, and stress. For this group, I pay close attention to their need to be self-determined and heard. Teenagers often get a “bad rap” as being difficult and resistant. In my work with teens, I have found that often underneath this exterior, they simply need an opportunity to open up, feel respected, and be encouraged. Motivational interviewing is a helpful therapeutic strategy.

    Adults

When working with adults, I believe it is important to be partners in the process. I can tailor treatment to individual temperament and needs. Some people prefer a non-directive, insight-oriented style, while others want treatment to be goal-driven, present-focused, and directive. Often, we end up crafting an approach that is a bit of both.

    Supervision

    (Play Therapy and Clinical)

As a Registered Play Therapy-Supervisor (RPT-S), I offer play therapy supervision to clinicians interested in pursuing the Registered Play Therapy credential. As a reminder, beginning January 1, 2020, the Association for Play Therapy requires that play therapy experience be accrued under the supervision of an RPT-S.

    Treatment specializations include:

    Play Therapy

Play therapy makes a difference. Play is an enjoyable, fun activity that elevates our spirits and brightens our outlook on life. Play relieves feelings of stress and boredom and, most importantly, helps us express ourselves.
